On the occasion of the Centenary of Locarno Treaties, Locarno - the City of Peace - is promoting a collective and symbolic action to affirm the value of peace and dialogue in an international context marked by numerous conflicts. The "Fili della Pace" are an initiative proposed by City Hall and the City Council. The first ribbons, hung on June 3, 2025 at Palazzo Marcacci, will remain on display until December 1, 2025, the date the Locarno Treaties was officially signed in London.

The first public moment of the initiative took place on Monday, June 9, at 5 p.m., starting from the Rusca Gardens (named after Giovan Battista Rusca, the mayor who brought the Conference to Locarno in 1925). Around Remo Rossi's "Toro" statue, participants kicked off the action, then moved together - or in groups - to some significant points in the City to hang the peace threads. The route ended at Peace Park (so named in 1965 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Conference), with the spontaneous sharing of peace messages in different languages by the people present.

However, the initiative does not end with the June 9 event; it will continue in the following months and will be spread throughout the area. Locarno schools are invited to involve pupils before the end of the school year. The invitation to participate is also extended to municipalities, associations and citizens, who can join at any time by hanging white ribbons-even made sustainably, e.g., from old T-shirts or bed sheets-in gardens, terraces, balconies or other symbolic places.
